Writing a blog a day for six months… what is it like?

It’s been six months to the day when I first embarked on a quest, one that started as a challenge and turned into something greater. I committed myself to writing one blog a day, for a whole year. Now that I’m at the half way mark, it’s a good opportunity to reflect.

Over the six months:

  • 8,450 people have read my blogs on Medium alone
  • I’ve written blogs on topics including Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Business and Health
  • 181 people have followed me on Medium
  • Around 182,000 words have been written
  • About 250 hours have been spent generating ideas and writing the blogs
  • That means 5% of the last six months have been spent on the blogs, on average 70 minutes a day

Over that time I’ve developed my existing writing skills, become much more creative in finding ideas to write about and become very disciplined. So much so that writing blogs have now become a natural part of my day-to-day routine.

There have been a few times I was close to not doing one, because I was either ill or didn’t feel like I had the time. But I didn’t want to fail so I found a way. I have no doubt that the next six months of my challenge will be an absolute success.

Will I continue at the end of my year challenge?

Right now, I feel like I would. There are so many benefits to me writing every day which I’ll cover shortly. It’s become so ingrained in my mind and in my life that I think it will be difficult to ever stop.

Sure, it’s not been easy so far and it will always have it’s challenges:

  • For me the biggest challenge so far is coming up with ideas. I specialise in marketing, so the majority of my blogs are geared towards them. But often or not I struggle for ideas. I refuse to re-use ideas or re-write older blogs and re-post them, so every one is unique.
  • Time is of course a massive factor. However the benefits easily outweigh the time needed and I don’t regret the time I put into them.
  • The results are not always as…
